A recent Detroit transplant, D.S. Bullock is a fashion designer in her twenties who fuses traditional
sewing techniques with futuristic fabrics and styles to create one-of-a-kind garments. Her designs tend
toward the avant garde and unusual, while maintaining both a sense of elegance and excellent construction.
She has participated in numerous runway shows and design competitions, and has been featured in such
publications as Detroit Electronic Quarterly, the Detroit News, and the Detroit Free Press, to name a few.
Starting in 1999, Bullock opened an online business for recycled rubber clothing and accessories called
Road Rash Rubber. Her work under the RRR brand has appeared in dozens of conventions, fashion shows, and
even several film projects.
Since relocating to Detroit, DSB has refocused her efforts on the sewing machine to develop new lines of
fashion, the first collection of which-- Defiance:Detroit-- earned her a spot as one of the designers
carried in the Pure Detroit Design Lab boutique. Her second collection, a line of striking linen garments
with hand-screened Trotsky accents, was unveiled at the high-profile Project Ref@shion runway event. The
third collection from DSB, showcased during her six-week stint as the featured designer at Pure Detroit
Design Lab, was titled The Lunatic Fringe. It debuted in the Fall of 2005.
As of May 2006, D.S. Bullock is now the director of the Design Lab. Her new Spring line, ixtapaobscura,
is set to come out in 2007, and is heavily influenced by the surrounding community of Southwest Detroit,
as well as the flamenco classes she has been taking as of late.
